Bernie Taupin
May 22, 1950
Lyricist Bernie Taupin began a historic partnership with Elton John in 1967, which flourished throughout the following decade. Although he provided the conceptual foundation for numerous albums, his professional focus remained on poetic composition rather than performing. He was a non performing member of the Elton John Band, contributing the words for iconic records like Madman Across the Water and Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.
A departure from his primary collaborator occurred in 1976, leading him to work with Alice Cooper on the concept album From the Inside. During his brief residency in Los Angeles, he also released a self titled solo project in 1971 and another titled He Who Rides the Tiger in 1980. His creative output defined the narrative landscape of the seventies.
