Billy Gibbons
December 16, 1949
Billy Gibbons founded ZZ Top in 1969 after previously leading the Moving Sidewalks. Singing while playing lead guitar, he became the band's principal songwriter alongside Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, helping create its distinctive blend of blues, boogie, and hard rock on albums including Tres Hombres, Fandango!, and Degüello.
Gibbons remained with ZZ Top throughout the band's entire recording career, making it one of rock's longest-running lineups without a personnel change until Hill's death in 2021. Alongside his work with the band, he released solo albums, collaborated with numerous artists, and continued bringing his unmistakable guitar style to concert audiences worldwide.
