December 15, 1946
Carmine Appice became the drummer for Vanilla Fudge in 1966, helping the band develop its powerful blend of psychedelic rock and heavy blues. His energetic playing and innovative double bass drum technique influenced generations of rock drummers as he appeared on albums including Vanilla Fudge, Renaissance, and Near the Beginning.
After Vanilla Fudge disbanded, Appice co-founded Cactus in 1969 before joining Beck, Bogert & Appice in 1972 with Jeff Beck and Tim Bogert. He later worked with Rod Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Murder, and many other artists while also writing instructional books, recording solo projects, and appearing as a guest performer around the world.
