 Ozzy Osbourne

December 3, 1948 – July 22, 2025

Few singers left a larger mark on 1970s hard rock than Ozzy Osbourne. As the original lead singer of Black Sabbath from 1968 to 1979, his unmistakable voice helped define a darker, heavier style with landmark albums including Paranoid, Master of Reality, and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. His performances and lyrics helped establish the sound that became known as heavy metal.

After leaving Black Sabbath in 1979, Osbourne launched a remarkably successful solo career, introducing a new generation of fans through classic recordings with guitarist Randy Rhoads and decades of worldwide touring. Although health problems eventually brought his touring career to an end, he reunited with the original Black Sabbath lineup for a farewell performance in Birmingham in 2025, bringing his live career full circle in the city where it began.

Percy Jones

December 3, 1947

Percy Jones co-founded Brand X in 1975 and became one of the most distinctive bass guitarists to emerge from the jazz fusion movement. His expressive fretless bass playing helped define the band's sound on albums including Unorthodox Behaviour, Moroccan Roll, and Product while performing alongside Phil Collins, John Goodsall, Robin Lumley, and Morris Pert.

After leaving Brand X in 1980, Jones worked with Brian Eno, 801, and numerous jazz fusion and progressive rock artists while also developing a successful solo career. He continues to record and perform on a variety of musical projects.
