Denny Carmassi
April 30, 1947. As the drummer for Montrose, Denny Carmassi provided the heavy, rhythmic foundation for their first two influential hard rock albums starting in 1973. His powerful style became a signature element of the group through 1976, at which point he helped form the band Gamma. He performed with Gamma from 1979 to 1982 and joined the lineup of Sammy Hagar’s solo band for several recordings.
Denny Carmassi also worked as a session player, lending his skills to various studio projects throughout the late seventies. His career with Heart began in 1982 and continued through 1993, while his tenure with Whitesnake lasted from 1993 to 2002. Use of varied percussion helped define his versatile professional reputation.
