Berry Oakley
April 4, 1948 – November 11, 1972. Raymond Berry Oakley III was the founding bass guitarist for The Allman Brothers Band from 1969 to 1972. Known for his melodic and fluid approach to the four-string instrument, he played a vital role in pioneering the southern rock genre. He contributed his signature booming low end to legendary live performances and studio albums, helping define the group's dual-lead guitar sound through his unique playing style.
He remained a central figure in the ensemble until his passing, leaving behind a legacy of innovation and rhythmic complexity that influenced a generation of rock musicians.
Following the tragic loss of his close friend Duane Allman in 1971, Oakley struggled with immense grief and increased drug consumption. This period of profound sorrow and exhaustion preceded his own fatal motorcycle accident that occurred merely three blocks away from where Duane was killed just over one year earlier in Macon, Georgia.

Gary Moore
April 4, 1952 – February 6, 2011. Robert William Gary Moore joined the Irish rock group Skid Row as the lead guitarist from 1968 to 1971. He later transitioned to Thin Lizzy, serving multiple tenures as the lead guitarist in 1974, 1977, and from 1978 to 1979. Between these stints, he showcased his versatility as a founding member and lead guitarist for the jazz-fusion ensemble Colosseum II from 1975 to 1978.
His fiery technique and emotional phrasing became a hallmark of the hard rock scene, especially on the 1979 release Black Rose: A Rock Legend. While he was primarily known for his electric guitar mastery, he also provided lead vocals and played mandolin during his various studio collaborations. Moore also functioned as a session player for various high-profile projects, blending blues sensibilities with a heavy, aggressive delivery that solidified his reputation across the global rock landscape.

Dave Hill
April 4, 1946. David John Hill earned global recognition as the flamboyant lead guitarist for the glam rock group Slade from 1966 to the present day. During the early seventies, he was renowned for his shimmering stage presence and distinct visual style that complemented the band’s string of chart-topping anthems. Before the group achieved superstardom, he refined his craft in various regional ensembles including The Vendors and The ‘N Betweens.
His contributions on the lead and rhythm guitar were fundamental to the loud, rhythmic sound that defined the British rock scene. Hill often utilized a custom Superyob guitar to match his metallic outfits, bridging the gap between high-energy performance and technical skill. Throughout the decade, he remained a constant presence in the lineup, recording numerous influential albums and providing backing vocals that bolstered their signature raucous vocal delivery.
