Steve Marriott
January 30, 1947 -- April 20, 1991 - Steve Marriott spent the first half of the decade leading Humble Pie through their most commercially successful period, culminating in several gold albums and extensive stadium tours. He plays the guitar, harmonica, and piano. His soulful and powerful vocals anchored hits like 30 Days in the Hole and the landmark Performance Rockin the Fillmore. He also plays the organ. After the group disbanded in 1975, he pursued a solo career and briefly reunited the Small Faces in the late seventies. By 1980, he was touring with a new lineup of Humble Pie.

Phil Collins
January 30, 1951 - Phil Collins began the decade as the drummer for Genesis, joining the group in 1970 and debuting on their album Nursery Cryme. He plays the drums and piano. After the departure of Peter Gabriel in 1975, he took over lead vocal duties while continuing to anchor the band’s rhythm section. He also plays the guitar and synthesizers. Throughout the seventies, he balanced his work with Genesis by performing in the jazz fusion band Brand X and acting as a session musician for various artists. By 1980, he led the group through the release of Duke, which marked a major transition toward their commercial peak.

Marty Balin
January 30, 1942 -- September 27, 2018 - Marty Balin began the decade as a member of Jefferson Airplane before departing the group in 1971. He plays the guitar and piano. After a brief period producing and performing with the band Bodacious DF, he joined Jefferson Starship in 1975, where his songwriting and vocals led to major hits like Miracles. He also plays the bass guitar. Throughout the late seventies, he contributed to several platinum albums before leaving the group again in 1978 to focus on solo projects and musical theater. By 1980, he was preparing material for his debut solo album.
