David Byron
January 29, 1947 -- February 28, 1985 - David Byron began the decade as the original lead vocalist for Uriah Heep, contributing to their first ten studio albums. He plays the guitar and piano. His wide vocal range and operatic style helped define the band's hard rock sound on hits throughout the early seventies. He also plays the drums. After departing the group in 1976, he launched a solo career and formed the bands Rough Diamond and The Byron Band, continuing to record and perform through 1980.

Hilton Valentine
May 21, 1943 -- January 29, 2021 - Hilton Valentine began the decade by releasing a solo album in 1970 that showcased his folk and psychedelic influences. He plays the guitar and piano. Throughout the seventies, he participated in several reunions with the original lineup of The Animals for recording projects and live performances. He also plays the harmonica. He remained active in the music scene through 1980 by collaborating with various artists and working on independent musical ventures.
