John Coghlan

September 19, 1946

John Coghlan helped form the rock band Status Quo and established himself as their original drummer. He played on all of their classic early records, including the 1972 breakthrough album Piledriver and the 1973 follow-up Hello! His steady, powerful rhythm style drove the group's signature heavy boogie sound throughout their most successful decade.

He continued to record and tour as an official member of the band from 1967 until late 1981. After leaving the group, he kept busy by playing with various other rock projects, which included forming his own live bands and participating in special reunion concert tours during 2013 and 2014.
