Lee Dorman
September 15, 1942 – December 21, 2012
Lee Dorman joined Iron Butterfly as their bass guitarist in time to record the massive 1968 album In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. He secured the rhythm section through three more studio albums with the group before they initially split up in 1971. His work helped define the heavy, fuzzy rock sound of that era.
In 1971, Lee co-founded the rock supergroup Captain Beyond. He played bass guitar on their self-titled 1972 debut album and the 1973 follow-up titled Sufficiently Breathless. After a brief break, he rejoined the band to record the 1977 album Dawn Explosion before the group stopped tracking new material in 1978. He later participated in various reunion projects over the years.
