 Freddie Mercury

September 5, 1946 – November 24, 1991

Farrokh Bulsara took the name Freddie Mercury when he joined forces with Brian May and Roger Taylor to form Queen in 1970. He anchored the rock group as their lead singer and keyboardist for over two decades. He spent his early career performing in regional clubs before the band found global success with their breakthrough album Sheer Heart Attack in 1974. He also regularly played the piano both in the studio and during their massive concert tours.

He wrote the celebrated song Bohemian Rhapsody for the 1975 album A Night at the Opera. He steered the group through a steady run of hit records throughout the decade, including News of the World in 1977 and The Game in 1980. He also branched out to record solo material and collaborate with other prominent artists starting in 1984. He remained the central voice of the group until his studio work concluded in 1991, leaving behind a profound legacy as one of the most innovative and enduring forces in rock history.
