Alexander Arthur Van Halen founded Mammoth alongside his brother in 1972 before the group eventually evolved into the powerhouse quartet known as Van Halen. Records, the group released their self-titled debut in 1978, which redefined the hard rock landscape through aggressive percussion and innovative rhythmic patterns.

He continued to anchor the rhythm section through a prolific string of multi-platinum albums including Van Halen II and Women and Children First. By 1980, he had established himself as a premier rhythmic force in the global rock scene.
