March 29, 1947. Born Robert Toteaux, the vocalist Bobby Kimball fronted the Louisiana group S.S. Fools before joining the original lineup of Toto in 1977. His distinctive high tenor voice powered the band’s debut self-titled album and subsequent follow-ups, Hydra and Turn Back. He contributed both lead vocals and keyboards to their early catalog, helping define the polished studio sound of the late seventies.

Beyond his tenure with Toto from 1977 to 1984, he provided background vocals for several prominent studio sessions. His energetic performances and melodic range cemented his status as a key figure in the rising arena rock and adult contemporary genres. This era of his professional life focused on intricate vocal arrangements and massive radio hits.
