 Sir Elton John

March 25, 1947. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, Elton John initially played keyboards for the R&B outfit Bluesology until 1968. He then adopted his famous stage name and began a prolific songwriting partnership that led to the 1969 debut Empty Sky. As the lead vocalist and pianist for the Elton John Band, he achieved immense global success with a string of definitive seventies albums, including Honky Chateau, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and the autobiographical Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy.

Beyond his solo work, he appeared as the Local Lad in the 1975 film adaptation of Tommy and formed The Rocket Record Company. Throughout his tenure from 1962 to the present, he frequently provided harmony vocals for other artists and experimented with various backing lineups during high-energy world tours.
