Howard Leese
June 13, 1951
As a versatile foundational pillar for Heart, Howard Leese shaped the multi-platinum arena sound of the Pacific Northwest with his intricate arrangements. He initially joined the production circle at Mushroom Studios, assisting with the early sessions for their debut record before stepping on stage as a full-time member in late 1975. Howard Leese was the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboards, and mandolin player who provided the complex layers behind the band's folk-infused hard rock.
His contribution drove the success of major studio records like Dreamboat Annie, Little Queen, and Dog and Butterfly, creating a steady backdrop for the frontline vocalists. He managed song arrangements and synthesizers during extensive global tours, cementing a distinct musical style that carried the band through various lineup changes. His tenure extended across more than two decades, keeping him as a constant force in the studio and on the road from 1975 until 1998. He later joined the touring lineup of Bad Company in 2008, maintaining a steady live performance schedule well into the next millennium.
