 Gary Wright

April 26, 1943 – September 4, 2023. Spooky Tooth featured Gary Malcolm Wright as the lead singer and keyboardist from 1967 to 1970 and again during their 1972 to 1974 reformation. He served as a primary songwriter, crafting the heavy, blues-influenced progressive rock that defined their early repertoire. After the group initially disbanded, he pursued a solo path while simultaneously providing his talents as a session keyboardist for George Harrison, appearing on the landmark triple album All Things Must Pass.

In 1975, his career reached a massive commercial peak with the release of The Dream Weaver. This influential record was pioneering for its heavy reliance on synthesizers rather than guitars. He remained a solo force throughout the late seventies, continuing to refine his keyboard centered pop rock sound on subsequent studio projects. Gary Wright maintained his role as a prominent recording artist and session collaborator through 1980.
