April 24
Doug Clifford
April 24, 1945. As the founding drummer and harmony singer for Creedence Clearwater Revival, Douglas Raymond Clifford provided the rhythmic core for a monumental string of hits until the group disbanded in 1972. Known by the nickname Cosmo, he maintained a steady, powerful style that anchored albums such as Cosmo's Factory and Green River. He contributed significantly to their percussion-heavy sound during their peak years of global popularity.
Following the band's split, he released the solo record Cosmo in 1972 and remained active in the recording industry. He eventually joined forces with Stu Cook to serve as the rhythm section for the Don Harrison Band in 1976, performing on two studio albums. Throughout the remainder of the seventies, he worked as a producer and session drummer, lending his talents to various rock projects for former bandmates and other artists.
