Chris Squire
March 4, 1948 – June 27, 2015. Chris Squire anchored the progressive rock titans Yes as their founding bassist and backing vocalist from 1968 to 2015. Known for his aggressive, melodic Rickenbacker tone, he performed on every studio album released during the seventies. His intricate rhythmic contributions defined landmark records like Fragile and Close to the Edge, cementing his reputation as a premier architect of the genre.
In 1975, the virtuoso showcased his compositional range by releasing the solo effort Fish Out of Water. While maintaining his central role in Yes, he collaborated with Alan White on the 1981 single Run with the Fox. Throughout this era, his harmonized vocals and thunderous bass lines provided the essential sonic foundation for the group’s evolving symphonic arrangements and stadium-filling tours.
