Karl Jenkins
February 17, 1944. Karl Jenkins was the saxophonist and oboist for Nucleus from 1969 to 1972. In 1972, he joined Soft Machine as the keyboardist, oboist, and saxophonist, remaining with the group from 1972 to 1984.
He contributed extensively to albums like Six and Seven during the mid-seventies. His dual role as a reed player and composer helped steer the ensemble toward a fusion-oriented sound. By 1980, he had become the primary creative force behind their complex studio productions.
