 Ray Manzarek


February 12, 1939 – May 20, 2013. Ray Manzarek served as the keyboardist and occasional vocalist for The Doors from 1965 to 1973. His signature style utilized a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass and Vox Continental organ to create the haunting atmosphere found on L.A. Woman and Morrison Hotel.

Following the group's dissolution after their final recordings as a trio in 1972, he embarked on a diverse solo path. He released experimental albums such as The Golden Scarab and The Whole Thing Started with Rock and Roll Now It's Out of Control.

By 1977, he formed the band Nite City, acting as their keyboardist and primary songwriter for two studio releases. During this fertile period, he also provided production expertise for the Los Angeles punk group X on their debut record, Los Angeles.

Steve Hackett

February 12, 1950. Steve Hackett performed as the lead guitarist for the progressive rock band Genesis from 1971 to 1977. Before this landmark tenure, he contributed as the lead guitarist for Quiet World on their 1970 concept album and participated in earlier groups like Canterbury Glass.

During his years with Genesis, he utilized a unique tapping technique on the electric guitar that defined the sound of Selling England by the Pound and Wind and Wuthering. After departing the group, he transitioned into a prolific solo career, acting as the lead guitarist, harmonica player, and vocalist for his own ensemble starting in 1978. His seventies output culminated with influential studio releases such as Spectral Mornings and Defector, showcasing his atmospheric compositions and mastery of the twelve string guitar.

Brian Robertson

February 12, 1956. Brian Robertson functioned as the lead guitarist for Thin Lizzy from 1974 to 1978, helping define their signature twin-guitar harmony sound. During this prolific period, he contributed fierce melodic leads to classic albums like Jailbreak and Bad Reputation.

Following his departure from the group, he formed Wild Horses in 1978, serving as the lead guitarist and bassist alongside Jimmy Bain. This hard rock outfit released their debut album in 1980, showcasing his aggressive style before he eventually joined Motörhead as their lead guitarist later that year.
