Nigel Olsson
February 10, 1949. Nigel Olsson established himself as a premier drummer during the early seventies while anchoring the Elton John Band from 1970 to 1975, later returning from 1980 to the present. His sophisticated percussion style defined the rhythmic foundation of landmark recordings like Honky Château and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Beyond his extensive work with Elton John, he functioned as the drummer for the hard rock outfit Uriah Heep during their 1970 formative period and contributed to the 1971 debut of the trio Farm. Throughout this era, he frequently collaborated with guitarist Davey Johnstone and bassist Dee Murray. His distinctive approach to the kit earned him immense respect within the industry, leading to his involvement in various studio sessions and a successful solo recording venture during 1978.
