Jim Seals
October 17, 1942 – June 6, 2022
Born James Eugene Seals, Jim Seals began his career as a saxophone player in Texas bands before reuniting with Dash Crofts, whom he had first met in high school. After working together in groups including The Champs and The Dawnbreakers during the 1960s, they formed Seals & Crofts in 1969. As a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and mandolin player, Seals helped shape the duo's close-harmony sound on albums such as Summer Breeze, Diamond Girl, Unborn Child, and Get Closer.
Seals co-wrote many of the duo's best-known songs, including "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl," "Hummingbird," "Get Closer," and "We May Never Pass This Way Again." Their blend of folk, pop, rock, and soft rock influences made Seals & Crofts one of the most recognizable harmony duos of the 1970s. Following the group's original run, Seals occasionally reunited with Crofts and later performed with his younger brother Dan Seals as Seals & Seals.
His work with Seals & Crofts established him as one of the distinctive voices of 1970s soft rock.
