 Justin Hayward

October 14, 1946

Justin Hayward joined The Moody Blues in 1966, replacing Denny Laine as the band's guitarist, lead singer, and songwriter. He became one of the group's principal creative forces and helped shape albums such as Days of Future Passed, In Search of the Lost Chord, On the Threshold of a Dream, A Question of Balance, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and Seventh Sojourn. His songwriting produced many of the band's best-known songs, including "Nights in White Satin," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Question," "The Voice," and "Your Wildest Dreams."

Alongside his work with The Moody Blues, Hayward launched a solo career and collaborated with John Lodge on the 1975 album Blue Jays. He continued releasing solo recordings while remaining closely associated with The Moody Blues throughout the band's long career. His vocals, guitar work, and songwriting helped establish the group as one of the leading progressive and symphonic rock acts of the 1970s.

Hayward has continued recording, touring, and performing as a solo artist for decades. He remains active in music in 2026.

Born William Daniel McCafferty, Dan McCafferty co-founded Nazareth in 1968 and remained the band's lead singer through its rise from a hard rock club act to an international recording group. His distinctive raspy vocals became a defining part of albums such as Razamanaz, Loud 'n' Proud, Rampant, Hair of the Dog, and Expect No Mercy. He also co-wrote songs including "Broken Down Angel" and "Bad Bad Boy."

McCafferty's voice helped make songs such as "Love Hurts," "Hair of the Dog," and "This Flight Tonight" enduring staples of classic rock radio. He remained with Nazareth until retiring from touring in 2013 because of health issues, although he continued recording and released the solo album Last Testament in 2019.

His work with Nazareth established him as one of the most recognizable voices in hard rock during the 1970s.
