Rick Parfitt
October 12, 1948 – December 24, 2016
Rick Parfitt joined Status Quo in 1967 and became one of the band's lead singers, guitarists, and songwriters alongside Francis Rossi. His rhythm guitar playing and vocals helped define the group's boogie rock sound on albums such as Piledriver, Hello!, Quo, On the Level, Blue for You, and Rockin' All Over the World. He co-wrote or co-wrote songs including "Whatever You Want," "Rain," and "Again and Again."
Throughout the 1970s and beyond, Parfitt remained a central figure in Status Quo as the band built a reputation for energetic live performances and a long string of successful singles and albums. His partnership with Rossi became one of the longest-running creative relationships in British rock.
Parfitt continued recording and touring with Status Quo until health issues reduced his performing schedule during the final years of his life. His work with the band helped establish Status Quo as one of the most enduring rock acts to emerge from the 1960s and thrive throughout the 1970s.
