 David Lee Roth

October 10, 1954

David Lee Roth joined Van Halen in 1974 and became the band's lead singer during its rise to prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s. His energetic stage presence and distinctive vocals helped define albums such as Van Halen, Van Halen II, Women and Children First, Fair Warning, Diver Down, and 1984. He co-wrote many of the group's best-known songs, including "Runnin' with the Devil," "Dance the Night Away," "Panama," and "Jump."

Roth launched a solo career in 1985 with the EP Crazy from the Heat and followed it with albums including Eat 'Em and Smile and Skyscraper. His solo recordings featured accomplished players such as Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, Gregg Bissonette, and Jason Becker. He later reunited with Van Halen for tours and the 2012 album A Different Kind of Truth.

Roth's work with Van Halen and his solo career established him as one of hard rock's most recognizable frontmen. He remains active in music in 2026.
