November 11, 1950
Jim Peterik co-founded the Ides of March in 1964 and became the band's lead singer, guitarist, keyboard player, and principal songwriter. He wrote the group's signature hit "Vehicle" and helped establish the band as one of the leading horn-driven rock acts of the early 1970s. His songwriting and musicianship remained central to the Ides of March throughout its long career.
In 1978, Peterik co-founded Survivor and became one of the band's principal songwriters, singers, and keyboard players. He appeared on albums including Survivor, Premonition, Eye of the Tiger, Caught in the Game, Vital Signs, and When Seconds Count. He co-wrote many of the band's best-known songs, including "Eye of the Tiger," "The Search Is Over," "High on You," "Burning Heart," and "Is This Love."
Beyond his work with the Ides of March and Survivor, Peterik became one of rock's most successful songwriters, writing or co-writing songs recorded by artists including 38 Special, Sammy Hagar, Cheap Trick, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He continues writing, recording, performing, and mentoring younger songwriters while remaining closely connected to the music that has defined his career.
