November 3, 1945

Nick Simper co-founded Deep Purple in 1968 and became the band's original bassist, appearing on the albums Shades of Deep Purple, The Book of Taliesyn, and Deep Purple. His bass playing helped establish the group's early sound, blending psychedelic rock, hard rock, and progressive influences. He also contributed backing vocals and songwriting during the band's formative years.

Simper left Deep Purple in 1969 and was replaced by Roger Glover as the band entered its most commercially successful era. He later formed the hard rock band Warhorse, appearing on the albums Warhorse and Red Sea before continuing with various recording and touring projects. His work with Deep Purple and Warhorse secured his place among the early pioneers of hard rock. He has continued performing with his own projects and making selected appearances celebrating his long career.
