 Eric Burdon

May 11, 1941

Eric Victor Burdon transitioned from the British Invasion era into a sophisticated psychedelic sound by leading Eric Burdon and the Animals from 1966 to 1969. As the lead vocalist, he fronted this ensemble through experimental releases like Winds of Change and The Twain Shall Meet. His deep, bluesy delivery anchored hit singles that explored social themes and counterculture narratives before he sought new collaborations.

In 1969, he joined forces with the funk rock group War as their lead vocalist and percussionist. This partnership produced the acclaimed album Eric Burdon Declares War in 1970, which featured the hit Spill the Wine. After his departure from the group in 1971, he focused on solo projects and a brief reunion with the original Animals in 1977. Throughout the decade, he remained a powerful presence in the rock world, consistently performing and recording new material.

Butch Trucks

May 11, 1947 – January 24, 2017

The Allman Brothers Band relied on the powerful rhythmic foundation provided by drums player Claude Hudson Trucks from 1969 to 1976 and again from 1978 to 2014. Working alongside a second percussionist, he developed a driving style that became a cornerstone of the southern rock genre. His relentless beat propelled the group through legendary live performances and essential studio recordings such as Idlewild South and Eat a Peach.

Following the success of At Fillmore East, he helped the ensemble navigate the transition toward more melodic textures on Brothers and Sisters. His unwavering timing remained a constant force through various lineup changes and a brief hiatus. By 1980, his heavy, consistent approach had established him as one of the most respected figures in the rock world.
