Bobby Whitlock
March 18, 1948 - August 10, 2025. As the Hammond organist and soulful vocalist for Derek and the Dominos from 1970 to 1971, Bobby Whitlock co-wrote much of the Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album. His gospel-infused style and powerful harmonies defined the blues-rock masterpiece alongside Eric Clapton. Before this collaboration, he contributed as the organist for Delaney and Bonnie and Friends, appearing on the 1970 tour.
Following the dissolution of the Dominos, he recorded several solo albums during the early seventies, featuring his skills as a keyboardist and acoustic guitarist.
Reflecting on the era, he famously noted, "You know I'm indirectly responsible for disco? Robert Stigwood (Clapton's manager) took the Dominos' money, used it to create RSO Records and record the Bee Gees. My deepest apologies to the entire music world."
