Andy Scott
June 30, 1949
The Sweet established a definitive glam rock sound after securing Andy Scott as their lead guitarist in the summer of 1970. He anchored the band through their classic era, contributing vital backing vocals and heavily driving their transition from bubblegum pop into heavy, guitar-laden rock. Andrew David Scott, who initially performed on bass before shifting focus, plays the guitar and keyboards. His intricate arrangements and sonic textures helped propel landmark anthems like Block Buster, Ballroom Blitz, and Fox on the Run to massive international chart success.
When the group evolved into a self-producing unit, his role expanded significantly on landmarks like the 1974 album Desolation Boulevard. Following the departure of the original lead vocalist, he stepped up to handle co-lead vocals alongside the bassist, keeping the band active as a trio until they initially split in 1982. He spearheaded a new incarnation of the band in 1985 and has continued to tour and release new material under the moniker Andy Scott's Sweet well into the current era.
