Sir Paul McCartney

June 18, 1942

As the bass guitarist, acoustic guitarist, keyboardist, synthesizer player, and lead vocalist for Wings, Paul McCartney established a massive sonic footprint throughout the seventies. He formed the rock outfit in 1971 following the dissolution of his previous iconic quartet, immediately embarking on a decade of prolific songwriting and stadium tours. His melodic bass lines and versatile vocal arrangements drove a continuous string of commercial hit records, beginning with early studio efforts like Wildlife and Red Rose Speedway.

The band achieved monumental global success with the landmark 1973 release Band on the Run, followed by a succession of multi-platinum albums including Venus and Mars and London Town. He guided the shifting lineups of the group as an official founding member until they officially disbanded in 1981. He then transitioned into a highly successful, permanent solo career, releasing numerous studio albums and staging massive international concert tours well into the 2020s.
