 Jeffrey Hammond

July 30, 1946

Jeffrey Hammond entered the progressive rock world in a spectacular way when he joined Jethro Tull as their official bass guitar player in early 1971. He was old friends with the band leader, Ian Anderson, who had actually written several songs about him before he even joined the group. He quickly became a favorite of the fans because of his funny personality and the custom black and white striped suits he wore on stage. His thick bass lines helped power hit albums like Aqualung and the chart-topping Thick as a Brick.

He recorded and toured with the band as a full member during their most successful era. He spent five years keeping the rhythm steady on the road and in the studio. He chose to walk away from the music industry entirely in late 1975 to focus on his passion for painting.
