John Oliva

July 22, 1959

Hailing out of Florida, John Nicholas Oliva earned a reputation for his powerful vocal delivery while playing piano and keyboards. He took his first major musical steps by singing for the cover band Metropolis before coming together with his brother to lay down the foundations of a heavier sound.

By the close of the decade, he sparked a brand new creative vision when he helped form Avatar, a hard-hitting outfit that eventual name-changes would transform into the celebrated metal band Savatage. He anchored that lineup as the driving lead vocalist and songwriter well into the subsequent decades, later expanding his musical reach by composing massive theatrical symphonic rock pieces for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra starting in 1993.
