 Stewart Copeland

July 16, 1952

In 1975, the progressive rock scene welcomed the intricate rhythms of Stewart Copeland when he powered the lineup of Curved Air. His propulsive energy drove the band across two studio records and extensive touring circuits.

He reshaped the landscape of popular music in 1977 by co-founding the Police. Operating from the back of the trio, his precise drums mixed reggae rhythms with frantic punk energy to create a highly influential new wave sound. He fueled a string of massive global albums that dominated the charts, remaining with the group until 1986 and returning for a major reunion tour in 2007. Beyond his permanent bands, his sharp timing was captured on diverse recording projects, including a series of solo tracks released under the secret name Klark Kent in 1978.
