 Simon Fox

July 12, 1949 – September 12, 2024

Be-Bop Deluxe shifted into high gear when Simon Fox stepped into the lineup in 1974. He anchored the innovative art-rock group with his precise, energetic driving beat on the drums. He powered their breakthrough albums like Futurama and Sunburst Finish, locking in perfectly with the complex guitar arrangements. His creative rhythm structures redefined their shifting tempos across five studio albums. He remained a mainstay of the roster during major tours until the outfit split up in 1978.

A new chapter immediately opened when he and his former bandmates formed Bill Nelsons Red Noise. He tracked drums for their experimental debut album Sound-on-Sound before moving on to new projects. He stayed highly active as a versatile session player throughout the next decade. He lent his steady pocket to various studio recordings and live setups, continuing to collaborate across the rock scene until 1988.
