 Jeremy Spencer

July 4, 1948

The distinctive textures of slide guitar arrangements became a cornerstone for Fleetwood Mac when Jeremy Cedric Spencer stepped into the lineup in 1967. He injected a fierce blues energy into their early records, frequently adding piano and vocals to their classic sound. He also showcased his songwriting versatility by releasing a self-titled solo album in 1970 while remaining fully committed to the group. His tenure with the outfit ended abruptly in 1971 when he walked out during a tour to follow a completely different spiritual path.

He returned to his musical roots later in the decade by assembling a new group called the Jeremy Spencer Band. This lineup secured a recording contract and released the album Flee in 1979, which delivered a blend of rock and pop. He continued to create and record music on his own terms well into the future, releasing several solo records including album projects in 2006 and 2014.

Alan Wilson

July 4, 1943 – September 3, 1970

Alan Christie Wilson helped forge the heavy, driving blues-rock sound of Canned Heat when the band took off in the late sixties. He gave the group its signature identity by playing harmonica and guitar, and he sang lead vocals on their biggest hits. He wrote and sang On the Road Again and Going Up the Country, two massive festival anthems that defined the era. His unique, high-pitched vocal delivery and masterful harmonica solos powered the lineup through legendary concert sets and five studio albums.

He also worked closely in the studio to support older blues legends, recording a collaborative album with Muddy Waters in 1969. He remained a central force in the band until his career was cut short when he passed away in 1970.
