 Burke Shelley

April 10, 1950 – January 10, 2022. Budgie featured the high-pitched vocals of Burke Shelley, who also performed as the power trio's bassist. He remained the sole constant throughout the heavy metal group's initial run from 1967 to 1988, driving their influential sound with aggressive four-string lines.

After establishing a cult following with their self-titled debut, he led the band through a series of seminal hard rock releases including Squawk and Never Turn Your Back on a Friend. His distinctively piercing voice and thick bass grooves anchored every studio effort throughout the seventies, solidifying the group's reputation for complex arrangements and eccentric song titles before their first hiatus.
